What is Transcendental Meditation?

Transcendental Meditation® (TM) is a simple and natural mental technique, which is practised for 20 minutes twice a day, sitting comfortably with eyes closed. It's easy to learn (anyone can learn TM), easy to practise, and doesn't involve any change in lifestyle or any belief system.

The word 'transcend' means to go beyond, and in TM, the mind settles down to a state of pure awareness, beyond thought. During this process the body gets profound rest, in many ways deeper than sleep, which allows accumulated stress to be released.

The result is clearer, calmer thinking, more energy and less stress. Not surprisingly, this leads to more success, happiness and fulfillment in life.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of practising TM start from the first day, and accumulate over time. Research on TM has shown benefits in all areas of life, including:-

  • Clearer thinking, increased intelligence and more creativity
  • Improved health, energy and happiness
  • Decreased stress, anxiety and depression
  • Greater efficiency and better relationships at work and at home
  • More inner peace, stability and contentment, contributing to a more peaceful world

How is TM Different?

TM is unique in its simplicity and effectiveness.

It’s the most well researched meditation practice in the world today, documented in over 350 published scientific papers. In these studies, TM has been shown to be uniquely effective in enlivening brain function and reducing stress related illness, right from the start of the practice. It is the only meditation recognised by the American Heart Association and the Australian CSIRO to actually lower blood pressure.

More on Research

TM comes from the ancient Vedic tradition of knowledge and was introduced to the Western world by the great scholar and teacher Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It is taught by certified teachers, trained by Maharishi, ensuring that everyone who learns is offered the best quality of teaching.
